Senior Specialist, Arctic Fisheries
Doug Chiasson, born and raised in Cape Breton, is a passionate advocate for sustainable fisheries across Canada and the world.
He has worked on innovative rural economic development projects as an advisor to 3 federal Ministers responsible for economic development in Eastern Canada. He supported the Government’s mission of developing sustainable and prosperous fisheries as a senior adviser to the Canadian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and served as Secretary to the Minister’s Advisory Committee on Wild Atlantic Salmon. More recently, he has advised the Premier of Manitoba on modernizing the province’s fishery, responsibly developing sustainable power generation, and building relationships with Indigenous fish harvesters.
In the Arctic, we have the opportunity to build a truly sustainable community-based fishery, focused on building instead of rebuilding.
